With the festive period underway and the year drawing to a close, we have been reflecting on the favourite projects we enjoyed working on in 2018.

The last 12 months have been an exceptionally busy for Torque. With a growing team, several new business wins, numerous international events co-ordinated and high-impact campaigns delivered in all sectors of the automotive industry (and beyond), picking out our favourite moments was no easy task.

In May, DAF invited us to their Ride & Drive event at Millbrook’s proving grounds. It was a great chance to experience their range of trucks in person, and get behind the wheel of the New LF, New CF and New XF models.

There’s been a lot for the Torque team to be proud about this year, none less so than our work launching the UK’s first electric scooter, the Zapp i300. It was the product of many months of planning, and saw our PR team integrate seamlessly within a wider marketing mix. The result was widespread UK and European coverage in consumer and specialist media, leading to an exceptionally fast increase in Zapp’s domain authority.

RM Sotheby’s is a global operation with classic car auctions all around the world. I joined Torque in January and one of my first consignments was to attend the RM Sotheby’s auction in Paris. To see so many lots up close and in the metal is a classic car enthusiast’s dream; with everything on show from old race cars, to a nearly-new Bugatti Chiron that sold for €3 million, to an assortment of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche classics. My favourite was a 1993 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport Prototype that sold above its estimate for €1.1 million. To sit in the car and imagine it was mine – if only for a few minutes – was something special!

My best moment was literally seeing the curtain drop on JLR’s massive new factory in Slovakia – the result of many weeks’ hard work to make it happen.

Also, huge relief that the curtain worked properly…

Benita – Events Executive

Being new to the automotive industry, I’ve really enjoyed working on-site to see our exciting projects come in to fruition for clients such as Jaguar Land Rover and Automobili Pininfarina. My highlight is all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to work with, both my Torque colleagues and the wider freelance team!

My highlight of 2018 is most definitely having worked with Texaco Havoline’s celebrity brand ambassadors on numerous high impact campaigns. Racing driver Freddie Hunt, triathletes Richard Murray and Rachel Klamer, as well as the sensational cycling team HUUB Wattbike. We’ll be working alongside them again in 2019 and have some great plans in the pipeline!

Tom – Account Executive

The launch event for Woodham Mortimer at the fabulous Nutbourne Bar & Restaurant in Battersea was my favourite moment of 2018 at Torque. Vintage Ferraris and Jaguars, a room full of interesting people and delicious food served with ample glasses of bubbly – what else could a man ask for?

There’s lots of great client work I could mention, but actually it’s been the satisfaction of running the business with great people. We’ve have had a few new team members join in 2018 and it’s good getting to work with new people and seeing the business evolve.

Amy – Account Director

I oversaw a project for Chevron to deliver a complete Europe-wide launch of their new Texaco Delo range of commercial vehicle lubricants.  The project included a 12-month communication plan for six key European markets, creation of a range of content, including driver advice and brand ambassador video. Torque also hosted the UK media launch, coordinating with our global Automotive PR network across Europe to host five similar events.

Paul – Account Director

DAF Driver is a driver’s magazine distributed to truck-stops, truck-washes and Motorway Services Areas across the UK – as well as the DAF Dealer network. I was involved from an early stage and produced a good deal of the content. Although DAF Driver has been published for three years now, this is the first new issue and it’s just hit the streets today. It boasts high-end production values, 56 pages, perfect-bound and a more lifestyle feel with non-industry related content.

Dija – Social Media Manager

One of my highlights of 2018 was meeting Havoline ambassadors and pro triathletes Richard Murray and Rachel Klamer. They are both so very talented and it was such a privilege to talk to them and more importantly to run alongside them and see their talent first-hand! Torque has been helping Chevron promote their ambassador activity on social media for their engine oil brand Havoline, and it was so great to meet the two ambassadors in person.

Marco – Group Director

Our collective efforts to continue to improve the way we approach, develop and tackle new business pitches has been a real highlight for me in 2018.  We’ve had some great successes, including three recent new client wins.  Of course, there’s still room for improvement, but I’ve seen us create far more focused, engaging, creative and impactful presentations in 2018.  It’s been a great team effort and as we head into 2019 with some exciting new business prospects in the pipeline, I’m confident that we will continue this evolution.

Natalie – Senior Events Manager

My 2018 highlight: Organising the Jaguar Land Rover hospitality campsite at Goodwood Festival of Speed. My fifth year (Torque’s eighth) working long hours and living in a field for the event but our fantastic events team and awesome family of freelancers make it a joy (with a little delirium thrown in).

Orianne – Social Media Executive

My highlight of the year was publishing the Freddie Hunt and Damon Hill interview on Texaco Havoline Europe’s Facebook page. The video interview reached over 100,00 people and gained 47,000 views. I particularly enjoyed working on this campaign as it was part of raising awareness for mental health.

Erika Robinson – Events Manager

My 2018 highlight was spending just under a week in Turin, Italy for an event with Automobili Pininfarina. The hotel used for guests had only opened in January and was in a stunning location. Working in events allows you to visit many places that you normally wouldn’t think to go!
