Torque Talk – Alex Juggins, Account Director

What do you love most about your chosen career?

It has to be the variety and the fact that no two days are the same. Contrary to what many people may think, working in a PR and communications agency doesn’t mean churning out 10 press releases every day. Communications is such a multidisciplinary career and that makes working life a constant learning curve.

What is your favourite book?

Fever Pitch, by Nick Hornby. It’s often cited as the best book ever written about football. I would agree with that, and it also happens to be all about my favourite club, Arsenal, so I find it very relatable. It’s supremely well written and manages to perfectly capture the crazy affliction that is being a football fan.

What’s the one kind of food you can’t live without?

Oats. I know it’s boring but I get through sack-fulls of the stuff every week.

What’s your go-to activity in your free time?

Anything outdoorsy. Running, open water swimming, dog walking, hiking in the mountains. I realised during lockdown just how important these activities are to me.

Top three movies of all time?

The Shawshank Redemption, Rocky IV, The Wolf of Wall Street

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to and why?

This is an almost impossible question to answer. As a history graduate, I feel as though I should have something intelligent to say. But I don’t, so…I’d go back to 1966 to experience what it was like for England to win the World Cup (lame, I know).

What’s next on your bucket list?

I’m in training for some epic endurance adventures races next year. I’m hoping to do several Swimrun events, which, as the name suggests, combines swimming and running. The events are in some beautiful, remote locations are a real test of body and mind. I can’t wait!

What’s the one skill you’d love to learn

I would really like to learn to play a musical instrument to a high level. I reached the dizzy heights of grade 3 clarinet when I was at school, and I wish I pursued it further. What I’d really like to learn, though, is the guitar.
