In support of World Mental Health Day, Havoline brand ambassador, Freddie Hunt, sat down to chat with Formula 1 World Champion, Damon Hill in an exclusive interview about mental health and motorsport.

The team at Torque worked alongside the two professional racing drivers on the Facebook campaign for long standing client, Chevron. To date the popular campaign has reached over 100,000 people and enjoyed 47,000 views on Chevron’s Havoline Europe Facebook page. Audiences tuned in from all over Europe to watch the racing pair share their experiences around the sensitive subject.

Open dialogue

The interview sees a very honest conversation between the son of legendary Formula 1 racing driver, James Hunt, and Formula 1 world champion, Damon Hill. The two openly reflect on their struggles with depression as well as revealing various coping mechanisms that have helped to navigate difficult periods in their lives.

Damon expresses his concerns for people feeling the need to continuously chase perfection, something which is an unobtainable, unrealistic goal. He goes on to state “If we just plough on and don’t consider our lives at all then we’re not really living.”

The Formula 1 world champion hopes by sharing his experiences with mental health, he can encourage others who may be struggling to open up.

Racing driver to interviewer

The Damon Hill interview is the most recent instalment in a series of videos recorded by Freddie Hunt for Chevron. The videos gained Freddie all access conversations with influential figures from Formula 1, including Bernie Ecclestone, Mika Häkkinen and Lord Hesketh.
