With a background in local journalism and extensive experience working with B2B and B2C clients, Torque Account Director, Amy Miller, is a true expert when it comes to capturing the ethos of her clients.

Let’s get to know Amy a little more…

How did you get into PR?

I went to Derby University to do History and American Studies, but started as a reporter in local news, before heading in-house to do events, PR and marketing.

Do you have an idol or someone that's been an inspiration?

I don’t have an idol as I believe that holding someone up in such a way can only lead to disappointment. But many people inspire me. Many high profile women, including MP Jess Philips, Mary Beard, Deborah Frances White, Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, and Jacinda Arden to name a few. But more importantly, I am inspired by my friends and family.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I am really interested in politics and especially how it affects women. If there were 50 hours in a day I would like to do a Women’s Studies or Political Science course of some sort but for now, I will concentrate on reading! I also try and exercise regularly, I run and do regular circuit training.

What is the most significant thing you've learnt as a PR?

Relationships are everything. Your client needs to trust you and your team, and this only comes from open, honest dialogue.

If you could give one bit of advice to someone new to PR?

Learn to juggle, learn to be flexible, responsive and always, always listen!
