As 2019 draws to a close, we’ve taken some time to look back on another successful year. Once again this year, we’ve worked with some of the most famous, exciting and influential brands in the automotive, mobility and transport sectors.

With so many great projects completed this year, it’s been difficult to whittle it down, but here are our top 10 Torque moments of 2019.

Getting physical with new Land Rover Defender

We were lucky enough to be involved in launching one of the world’s most hotly anticipated models of 2019, the Land Rover Defender. For the global unveiling at the IAA in Frankfurt we produced a stunning technical exhibit, using a cutaway of the new Defender. Just a few weeks later, we produced the live North American reveal event at the LA Auto Show, to an audience of 750 media, celebrities and customers.

Putting RM Sotheby’s Youngtimers in the spotlight

When RM Sotheby’s consigned a collection of more than 140 iconic cars from the ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s, we were delighted to be involved. A particular highlight was arranging for Top Gear’s Chris Harris to visit the collection in Switzerland – something that he was more than a little excited about. The resulting video on Top Gear’s Youtube channelachieved 1 million views in the first week alone.

Helping AIWAYS take charge at Geneva

AIWAYS U5 unveil at Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva International Motor Show saw us provide PR, social media and wider communications support to an exciting new EV brand called AIWAYS. Our pan-European integrated communications strategy helped AIWAYS and its U5 SUV enjoy a very positive reception at the show. It resulted in some 250 items of media coverage and a reach of more than 700 million. We even went on to support its activity at the Shanghai Auto Show!

Year-round ice at Test World

Part of Millbrook’s group of worldwide testing facilities, Test World, in northern Finland is the go-to destination for cold weather vehicle and tyre testing. Earlier this year, we helped it open its new indoor testing facility by hosting a group of highly influential media at the site. We followed this up later in the year by arranging an in-depth feature with Autocar, which saw one of our Senior Account Managers, Henry Willis, visit the Arctic Circle for the second time this year.

Introducing the Rodin FZED

From the Arctic Circle to Polynesia; our next highlight saw Torque Account Director, Ian Tonkin, spend a week in New Zealand, introducing media to the Rodin FZED. We started by introducing media to the company using private briefings in London, before giving a select few the opportunity to fly out to Rodin HQ in New Zealand for an intense period of driver training before being let loose in the mighty FZED.

Achieving staggering customer comms results for FlexiFleet

As communications professionals, one of the most satisfying things for us is when our campaigns completely eclipse industry expectations. This is the case for the customer communications campaign that we built for Thrifty’s Flexifleet offering. Our unique strategy, coupled with brilliantly executed content written and designed by our in-house team, has seen the number of ‘opted-in’ customers treble, with an average open rate of 62% (compared to the industry average of 27%).

Unveiling an electrified icon

We had the great pleasure in 2019 of launching one of the year’s most exciting EV projects – and there have been a few. Start-up, Morris Commercial’s reimagined all-electric Morris J-type van was a complete hit with media. Our PR strategy and content-creation helped achieve widespread coverage in titles including The Times, Daily Mail Online and Top Gear.

Introducing Texaco Lubricants into Europe

Texaco is such an iconic brand in the automotive sector, so we were thrilled to be responsible for launching its range of lubricants to the passenger car, commercial vehicle and industrial markets across Europe. We managed a multidiscipline digital, PR and advertising programme across multiple markets, creating a wide range of content and managing all social media channels.

Launching Pininfarina Batista at Geneva

Also at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2019, we brought the reveal of the Pininfarina Batista electric hypercar to life. We took responsibility for the full design, production and logistics planning for a VIP pre-show reveal event and on-stand press conference.

Helping RM Sotheby’s take pole position with Formula 1®

2019 saw the foundation of one of the most exciting automotive partnerships, when RM Sotheby’s and Formula 1® joined forces to hold an exclusive auction at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. We worked to promote the partnership, with a joint announcement made by RM Sotheby’s and Formula 1® at the Bahrain Grand Prix, followed by building media interest at the sale in Abu Dhabi later in the year.
